Ibrahim Hassan Mohamed is a respected human rights advocate, civil society leader, and expert
in social development who has championed the inclusion, protection, and participation of
marginalized and minority communities across Somalia and the broader East Africa
region since 2012.
Currently serving as the CEO of the Marginalized Community Advocacy Network (MCAN) and
Chairperson of Somalia’s Human Rights Civil Societies’ GIAM, Ibrahim leads a national
movement for justice and equity. He also heads four leading minority rights organizations
operating in Somalia and neighboring countries, working across sectors to uplift underrepresented
populations through advocacy, service delivery, and policy engagement.
He is a recognized member of the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) Oct 2022- to July 2024-,
contributing to strategic humanitarian planning and inclusion policies in Somalia. As a long-time
activist and civil society contributor, he has played key roles in national consultations, emergency
response coordination, and minority rights campaigns for over a decade.
Professionally, Ibrahim has served as a project designer, where he developed strategic and
inclusive programs aimed at enhancing the representation of excluded groups in development
planning and governance. He has coordinated economic empowerment projects supporting
unemployed women and youth and held technical positions including Health and Nutrition
Supervisor at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Peace Ambassador at the soldier of
Peace International Associate (SPIA). He has also engaged in research collaboration with
Portland State University on social inclusion topics.
Ibrahim is the Co-founder of the Somali Bantu Youth Association, which addresses youth and
women’s rights, gender-based violence, and community development through programs
supported by the U.S. Embassy in Somalia and Kenya.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration and management and Postgraduate
Certificates in Human Resource Management as while master’s degree in social work. He is also
a graduate of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), having participated in the
2022–2023 program on Optimizing Inclusive Leadership in Washington, D.C.
Internationally, Ibrahim has represented Somali civil society in major forums, including the Food
and Nutrition Forum to End Hunger (London, 2023) and the COP29 Climate Change Summit in
Baku (November 2024), advocating for the intersection of climate justice and human rights.
Currently in progress attending 4th International financial Development forum in Sevilla Spain on
30th June to 3rd July 2025.
