Background and Overview

Marginalized Communities Advocacy Network – MCAN is a dynamic and mission-driven Humanitarian organization dedicated to serving marginalized and vulnerable communities in Somalia and Kenya. We expect you to be highly motivated and skilled Program Officer to serve our team and contribute to the success of our impactful programs. In partnership with Danish Refugee Agency (DRC), MCAN intends to improve the delivery of aid to the most vulnerable by Strengthen DRC’s management of its sites through a full-scale registration and vulnerability screening process and mapping the presence of marginalized communities in DRC’s areas of operation.

With that background, the Project Officer is expected to undertake the following roles and responsibilities for a period of 5 months effective 1st October 2023. Among the key roles and responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:

  • Help the full-scale registration through reporting and information sharing.
  • The project officer is the focal point of the project sharing the challenges on daily post and pre-field debrief
  • The project officer to coordinate the assistance and enumerators during field work.
  • To supervise the daily activities of the enumerators and project assistances.
  • The project officer is coordinates with the project support team working alongside with DRC staff, protection and CCCM.
  • The project officer will submit the narrative report monthly prior the deadline
  • To organize the project staff and enumerators
  • To lead the project stuff on community engagement alongside with DRC staff
  • To monitor the signing in and out of the enumerators at the beginning and end of the workday.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of project activities.

Experience:

●     At least 2 years’ experience  working in project management and coordination within humanitarian and development sectors.

●     Experience in networking widely within the Somali context with a strong understanding of national and international response systems and structures – Cluster system or civil society.

●     Demonstrate experience in Safeguarding and Protection with emphasis on work with survivors of PSEA, GBV and Child Protection.

 ●     Experience delivering high quality, timely and complete narrative reports is preferred.

  • Flexibility and team work

●     Ability to read, write and speak at a professional level in English and Somali mahatiri and Mai mai

●      ●     Ability to produce high quality outputs in a timely manner while understanding and anticipating the evolving multi stakeholder needs.

●     Strong organizational skills

●     Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

●     Punctuality and respect for others.

●     Strong initiative and drive to deliver ahead of time and exceed expectations.

●     Ability to work as part of a dispersed team, coordinating with and communicating closely with other stakeholders.

●     Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

●     Treats all people fairly without favoritism.
