MCAN- INTERGARATED PROGRAMS IN BELEDWEYN HIRSHABELLE REQUEST MORE SUPPORT TO REACH VULNERABLE MINORITY GROUPS

  1. MCAN is Protection/CCCM NGO that works especially areas of protection,
camp coordination and camp management, mental health counseling to the
victims of protection, GBV and other health and Nutrition consequences.

MCAN- is currently managing Beledweyne MCH that serves over 160 patients
mostly from IDPs and host communities that located in Sigalow village, but the
challenge we have is we don’t have direct link of Health nutrition integrated
programs in it, and that zone we are working is overpopulated for only
vulnerable IDPs from minority groups.
MCAN- also provides weekly drought updates and new arrival mapping to the
CCCM cluster and reports protection needs/gaps and human rights violence
cases to UNSOM-HRPG.
MCAN- provides IDPs and host community from diversity communities’ mobile
health and protection risk awareness that reaches over 1220- households in
monthly base and reports them to the general protection cluster on monthly
basis.
Challenges that vulnerable people face in the IDP camps are as follow:
 Displaced women and girls are at high risk in the IDPs, often living with
no permanent shelter; they face sexual harassment, and domestic

violence. When crises hit, they are the most vulnerable to Gender-
Based Violence (GBV) and early and forced marriage. Perpetrators
often exploit their vulnerabilities, targeting them when they leave camps
to perform domestic chores or fetch water from distant places.
 The living conditions of IDPs is harsh because people are living in
overcrowded camps and settlements, with widespread malnutrition, and
outbreaks of water-borne and other diseases.
